Privacy Policy

Last updated May 21, 2026

Lowake is a remote-trigger alarm app for people with type 1 diabetes and the contacts they trust. This policy explains what the Lowake app and website collect, why, and how it is handled. We collect as little as possible and never sell your data.

Who this covers

  • Sleepers — the person who installs the app and can be woken.
  • Trusted contacts — people a sleeper invites, who can trigger the alarm from a shared web link.

Information we collect

From sleepers (the app):

  • A random app identifier and access token generated on the device. These are not tied to your name, email, or Apple ID.
  • An Apple Push Notification service (APNs) device token, so the server can send the silent push that triggers the alarm.
  • A private “wake link” identifier used to build the URL you share with trusted contacts.
  • Alarm status and a periodic “still reachable” heartbeat timestamp, so trusted contacts can see whether the phone can currently receive an alarm.
  • Your alarm-sound preference and an on-device activity log. These stay on your device and are not sent to the server.
  • Crash diagnostics — if the app crashes, Apple's MetricKit produces a technical crash report (call stacks, device model, and OS and app version) which is sent to our server so we can diagnose and fix the problem. These reports contain no personal information and no health or glucose data.

From trusted contacts (the website):

  • The display name you enter, so the sleeper knows who reached out.
  • A random trusted contacts identifier stored in your browser.
  • A record of the alarms you trigger, including the time.

Lowake has no accounts or passwords, does not request your contacts, location, or health data, and contains no third-party advertising or analytics trackers.

How we use it

  • To deliver a wake alarm to the sleeper's iPhone when a trusted contact triggers one.
  • To show trusted contacts whether the phone is currently reachable.
  • To attribute a triggered alarm to the trusted contact who sent it.
  • To diagnose and fix crashes and bugs.

How it's shared

We do not sell your information or share it for advertising. Data is processed only by the services that make Lowake work:

  • Apple Push Notification service delivers the silent push to the device.
  • Google Cloud (App Engine and Datastore) hosts the Lowake server and stores the data described above.

Your choices

A sleeper can revoke access at any time from within the app. Revoking invalidates the existing wake link and removes every trusted contact associated with it; a fresh link must be shared to re-invite anyone. Deleting the app stops all future pushes.

Data retention

We keep the information above only as long as needed to provide the service. Trusted contact records are deleted when a sleeper revokes access, and device tokens are dropped once Apple reports them as no longer valid.

Security

All traffic between the app, the website, and our server is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). The wake link acts as a shared secret — anyone who has it can trigger an alarm — so share it only with people you trust, and revoke it if it is ever exposed.

Children

Lowake is intended for use by individuals and their trusted contacts and is not directed to children under 13. A parent or guardian may set up and operate Lowake on behalf of a minor in their care.

Changes

We may update this policy as Lowake evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the “Last updated” date above.
